Lyrics

Laundry On The Line

She left the laundry out on the line
when she left that house for the very last time
Only stayed so long cause she thought she should
live the life everybody always thought she would

She felt vindicated. She felt clear.
She felt any old resentments disappear
The weight on her heart began to fade.
She closed her eyes, the train pulled away

So much of life is all uphill
You keep on moving ‘cause you can’t sit still
Until, you just sit still

He wondered, had he said he loved her enough
and how he filled his life with all that other stuff
He thought how he’d thought that he wished she’d change
He thought worrying was just her way

He looked again at her favourite chair
There she sat, no longer there
He took her hand, sat by her side
Took one breath, then he closed his eyes

So much of life is all uphill
You keep on moving ‘cause you can’t sit still
Until, you just sit still
